LED Driver is any power supply used in LED lighting applications for converting the alternating current in the supply mains into alternating (ac) or direct current (dc) for the LEDs, with or without voltage, current, or power control unit for providing constant supply for stable operation of the LEDs. A dimming and switching function or remote control may be incorporated into LED driver.
Note: “LED Driver” may also be referred to as “LED Controlgear”, “LED Power Supply” or similar wording starting with “LED”.
LED Driver may be:
a) integral (i.e. as a part of the LED lighting);
b) built-in (i.e. as a demountable part);
c) independent (i.e. separate) driver.

Light Emitting Diode (LED) Equipment for Lighting Applications
LED Driver, SELV (Safety Extra Low Voltage): A power source used in LED lighting applications with isolated output circuits operating at voltages that are not considered “Risk of Electric Shock” under normal operating conditions and after a single fault according to requirements in CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 250.13.
LED Controlgear under this category complies with the requirements for SELV (Safety Extra Low Voltage) of CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 60950-1.
LED Controlgear under this category complies with both CSA C22.2 No. 66.1 and CSA C22.2 No. 66.3 for Class-2 Low Voltage Transformers, or with the requirements for LPS (Limited Power Supply) of CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 60950-1.
All products under this class are intended for use in end-product equipment where the suitability of the component is may need to be determined in the end-product evaluation by CSA International, another accredited certification organization or the Regulatory Authority.
In addition, equipment intended for display, sale or use in the USA is required to include other information such as warning statements, installation instructions, etc., as may be specified in the NEC.
