COVERAGE:

This specification covers minimum requirements for the performance of footwear to provide protection against a variety of workplace hazards that can potentially result in injury. Any changes to the original components of safety toe footwear such as replacing or adding after market footbeds/inserts could cause failure to any or all parts of this standard rendering the ASTM marking invalid.

It is not applicable to overshoes with safety toe caps or strap on devices with safety toes.

Footwear classes of protection offered:

ASTM F2413-11:

Toe impact resistance (I) for the toe area of footwear – Impact 75 (I75): Mandatory;
Compression resistance (C) for the toe area of footwear – Compression 75 (C75): Mandatory;
Metatarsal protection (Mt) – Mt 75: Optional;
Conductive properties (Cd): Optional;
Electric hazard protection(EH): Optional;
Static Dissipative properties (SD): Optional;
Puncture resistance (PR): Optional.

Certified footwear is described by construction and its outsole in addition to upper style/model numbers.

Standard Specification for Performance Requirements for Foot Protection

NOTE: The ANSI Standard Z41 was replaced by ASTM F2413 in March 1, 2005.

Under ASTM F2413-11:

Markings:

manufacturer's name or trademark and/or CSA LM file number, or Master Contract number;
month and year of manufacture;
footwear size;
model/style number.

In addition to the above, the following labeling and identification are required.

Labeling and Identification:

Labeling and identification of protective footwear with protective toe cap is essential to ensure the wearer that footwear meets the required minimum performance of this specification.

the identification shall be either a stitched in, stamped or pressure sensitive label, or a combination of thereof. A specific four line format that identifies the type of footwear and the hazards for which it is designed to provide protection should be used. The identification shall be enclosed in a rectangular border and be placed on the inside or outside surface of either the tongue, gusset, shaft or quarter lining in one half pair;
print size on labels shall be clearly visual to the eye and shall measure 3.175 mm (0.125 in.) or larger.

The label uses a specific three or four line format that identifies the type of footwear and the specific hazards for which it is designed to provide protection.

Line 1: Identifies that the footwear is protective footwear that complies to an ASTM Standard with a specific year of issuance. CSA Monogram adjacent to the ASTM standard number;

"CSA Monogram/ASTM F2413-11"

Line 2: Identifies the appropriate gender of the user and the impact and compression rating of the category.

Identification for gender: F-Female; M-Male;
Identification for Impact rating: I75;
Identification for Compression rating: C75;

Lines 3 and 4: Identifies footwear that has additional protection from the other section references in this standard. Section reference shall be in numerical order.
